Nita Clark invites you on a journey back to her childhood. With her faint smile and guarded eyes, she beckons you into a world completely out of sync with everything she knows at home. She lived two lives … one inside a cult and one at school. Her challenge was to make sense of it all.
Nita’s story isn’t only about surviving a cult. It is about coming to terms with the truth of her past instead of hiding behind shame and denying it happened. By accepting those aspects of her childhood that made her feel different, Nita is finally letting go of the secrets that once controlled her life.
Nita Clark did not ask to join a cult. Her parents predetermined it for her. In a world wracked by the Depression Era’s desperation, people sought solace, comfort, and love anywhere they could. And, in Ohio, one charismatic group leader offered all of that in the form of a commune. But the good of the group was mutilated by their power-hungry leader, whose intelligence made him a master manipulator, gushing with praise one minute and cruelly abusive the next.
Throughout her life, Nita Clark searched for healing via various means. She eventually found freedom in writing. Nowhere Girl, written as a novel, recounts her experiences growing up in a psychological cult.
